The
registered design protects the design, the colours and shapes, of zwo- and three-dimensional objects. The registration gives the exclusive right to use the design. It can prohibit others from using
the design without the consent of the owner. This comprises all conceivable acts relating to the design, for example offering of products incorporating the design, making, selling, importing or
exporting such products.
Design protection arises when the design is entered in the Designs Register. The protection can last
for 25 years from the filing date.
Furthermore, EU far and International Registration are possible.
Designs and models may be applied for
- Germany
- Europe (EU far) and
- IR-Design
(international)
at the
- German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) or
- European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Alicante, Spain or
- WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland.
